Thank you letter to Pak n Save

Dear Store Manager

The Glen Innes Community really appreciates you giving us bread. We use the bread for empty lunch box day so that the teachers can show the children an example of what a healthy sandwich looks like. We also give sandwiches to children who don’t bring lunch to school. Another thing we use bread is when the there are leftover bread/rolls are handed to the needy children every afternoon so that they can enjoy a tasty treat. Thank you for giving us bread.

Yours Sincerely: Andrea

Snowflake Triangle

In this game, I had to pick different coloured triangles so that it could form into a snowflake. I think this game would be suitable for children between 5 and 8 students.

Snowman Puzzle

In this game, I had to put all the pieces together so that it could look like a nice snowy day on Christmas. I could drag the last 2 pieces on the master piece so I just took a screenshot. I think this game would be suitable for children from 5 - 9 yrs old. When I started playing the game, I didn't know what to do and where to place the pieces. Then I saw the snowflaked shaped piece and knew that it was showing me where to put the pieces. Then I finally finished.

Integers

I was playing a game called adding and subtracting integers. As you can tell, I did extremely bad. I got 3 correct and 7 wrong so I think I still need a little more practise. When I know my integers, hopefully I'll get the chance to play this game again and get 10 out of 10.

Exponents

In this game, we had to answer questions that had to do with exponents. I only got 1 wrong. When I was playing the game, Mr Morenko helped me with solving the problems and then I could understand exponents. Next time I play this game, hopefully I will get them all right.

Magic Square

Our Teacher put a link to a game called magic squares. In the game, the magic number was 15. So I had to write numbers from 1 - 9 so that each diagonal, down and across way will add up to 15. I couldn't have done it if Mr. Morenko taught Shanelle and I how to do it. I would like to have more of these examples in mathematics.

Hopefully in the next test, I will  improve even more.

Chinese New Year rap

WALT: write a rap

During the Chinese New Year
You’ll see people dancing.
When they were finished
People would say that it was enchanting.

Outside of their house
There are decorations.
But you will never see them
Outside of train stations.

On those decorations
There would be rhymes and poems
People would read them
But obviously not golems.

During the night
They light off firecrackers
Watch out parents
Hide your daughters.

The Chinese New Year
Is a religious festivals
They celebrate the years
Using symbols of animals.

How to make a cup of tea

WALT: write an explanation.

Tea was first made in China. But then the British took the credit. Most people would agree with me that tea can be drunk for breakfast, lunch, etc.

Gather all these things to make a cup of tea so people know what to do. Water, kettle, tea bag, sugar, milk, cup, tea spoon and a plate.

A sensible idea would be to use this method to make the tea. First, boil the water in the kettle. Next, grab the cup and put the tea bag inside. Put in the hot water and leave the tea bag in the cup to brew. After that, use the teaspoon to take the tea bag out. Then add only 1 teaspoon of sugar and finally add the milk then stir. Now the tea is ready to drink.

That is how to make a tasty tea beverage. Some people prefer using no sugar and milk. When people go to the U.K, they would see that they would serve the tea in a teapot instead of a cup.

Patterns and Rules

Screenshot 2014-10-17 at 9.51.56 AM.png

WALT: find patterns and rules.

For this game I had to find the patterns and the rules. First I played the tutorial and I got the last one wrong. After a few practices, I played the proper game. I got a few wrong and the score I got was 2 502. It was challenging for me because I got confused on some questions. I think I need more practice coming up with the rule.

Summarising the text - The Neighbours Shed

The characters in this poem is the neighbour next door and the children. The neighbour lives in his shed. The children want to get their tennis balls back from the neighbours shed but the neighbour won’t give the tennis balls back to them. So the children are trying to get their tennis balls back without using the keys and without the neighbour knowing they’re in the shed.

Word Problems

Screenshot 2014-09-12 at 9.17.28 AM.png

In this game, I had to solve word problems using fractions. These were difficult for me because I was confused with some of the questions but I got all of them correct. I would like to get harder word problems with fractions.

Screenshot 2014-09-05 at 11.41.54 AM.png

In the middle block, I shared my ebook with Alicia.  Alicia read my ebook and it was about muffins. We did this because our topic is about muffins. She was laughing at my story because she found it funny. She was able to read my story fluently and she didn't need my help.

Screenshot 2014-08-22 at 11.31.49 AM.png

Here is Chef Alfonso demonstrating on muffin making. Our topic is What is in a muffin? He told us that there were 2 different kinds of muffins. Sweet muffins and savory muffins. I enjoyed learning how to make a muffin with Alfonso.

Equivalent fractions

Screenshot 2014-08-22 at 9.47.01 AM.png
WALT: solve problems with fractions.

This game is called Equivalent Fish. I needed to know how to simplify the fractions to its lowest form. I had to control the bird to eat the correct fish with right answer.  Every time I got the answer correct, I get awarded 100 points. But if I get it wrong, it minuses 25 points and the bird pukes the fish out. This game was challenging because I got plenty of the answers incorrect and I lost a lot of points. I think I need more practice to learn how to simplify the fractions to its simplest form.

Nets - Making a Pyramid

triangular prism.jpg

This is the pyramid that I made. I used a compass to connect the lines together to form a triangle. This was a little difficult for me because I struggled using a compass because I hadn't used it before so I had help from my teacher. I would like to learn more about nets.

Robin Williams

Screenshot 2014-08-13 at 1.59.25 PM.png

Robin Williams was famous for being an actor and a comedian. He entertained people and made them laugh. I, myself enjoyed watching him and his movies. I loved watching his movie Night at the Museum. He played the role of a cowboy. On the 11th of August 2014, he died in Tiburon, California, U.S.A. I like this quote that Robin Williams wrote and it goes “Only in your dreams, we can feel free. It was always so and will never change.”

Scale Drawings

Screenshot 2014-08-08 at 9.48.16 AM.png

I learned to use scale to enlarge my drawing. I used a scale of 1 cm to represent 4cm. This means that my drawing is 4 times bigger. I think this task was too difficult because it had plenty of detail which made it hard for me to draw. I think I need more practise on this topic. Next, I would like to learn how to enlarge things with less detail.

How do I think NZ did in the Commonwealth Games

For the 2014 Commonwealth Games, England came first on the medal table. Although New Zealand has only 45 medals, they also came first because New Zealand's population is 4 443 000 people and if you divide the number of people to the number of medals, then you'll see that New Zealand comes on top because New Zealand has the lowest medals/people ratio. I think New Zealand did exceptionally well because they tried to get as much medals as they could.

Book choices for Junior Children

Grumpy Elelphant.jpg

I chose to read the book “Grumpy Elephant” by Joy Cowley. It is about a Grumpy Elephant and the other animals make him laugh because they are all bumping into things. I think this is suitable for Juniors because it is a short story but it is also entertaining and funny and it is also extremely easy to read. I think the photos in this story would help them to understand the story and help them with the hard words. I also think that they should be able to read it by themselves because it has plenty of easy words. I am 100% positive that plenty of children would read this story because it is very interesting how the other animals make the Grumpy Elephant happy.

Finding Grampy

Screenshot 2014-07-29 at 9.53.40 AM.png

In this game, I had to find grampy using fractions. I found him 4 times and I had 10 attempts. My current score is 40 percent. I found this difficult for me because there were no lines to help me find Grampy. So, when I play this game again, hopefully this would be easy for me to play.

WALT: name that shape.

In this game, I had to name all kinds of different shapes. I got all of them correct in 29 seconds. For me, I thought this game was a little difficult because I guessed some of the shapes because I hadn't seen them before. I would like to learn more about shapes next.

Spin and Spell

Screenshot 2014-07-03 at 12.05.35 PM.png

This game is called Spin and Spell. I had to spell the animals that appeared on the screen. The computer choose the animal for me to spell. I had to spell the word dog. I got it right because it was easy. I like spelling games because they are fun. I think this is a suitable programme for year 1 students because these are simple animals that they should be able to spell.

Scribbler

Screenshot 2014-07-03 at 12.29.22 PM.png

This game is Scribbler. All I did was scribble on a blank page and the programme will change it into something amazing. I enjoyed playing this game because I could be creative with them. This is what it turned my scribbling into.

Spending Splurge

I played this game with Arihi. This game is called Spending Splurge. In this game, I started off with $1.750 to spend and I will be on holiday for 9 days in Australia. When I played round 1, I didn't know what were the important things that I needed until I went to round 2. I needed to get a passport, a suitcase or bag, a return ticket and a departure tax. In the end, I had the total of $210 left to buy food.

Reading Conmprehensions

Screenshot 2014-06-25 at 11.04.31 AM.png
WALT: ask questions to clarify meaning.

This was all about reading a story and then answering the questions given. I got 9 out of 10 questions correct but the next to play the game, I will try my best to get 10/10. This was challenging for me because some of the questions were difficult but I managed to get most of them correct. I would like to learn algebra next.

Soccer Lessons 2

Quan is demonstrating how to stop the ball from getting into the goal. I found it interesting that people can stop a soccer ball with all sorts of parts of their bodies. He is teaching us the technique of how to kick a soccer ball the correct way. I had plenty of fun learning soccer skills with Quan.

Soccer Lessons

This soccer coach's name is Quan. For the past few weeks, he has been teaching us how to control a soccer ball and plenty of other things. He is Spanish but I think he still needs a little help to learn a little more English. I had a hard time to understand what he was trying to say but I figured it out in the end.

Decimal Place Value

Screenshot 2014-06-06 at 10.14.19 AM.png
WALT: solve problems in groups.

In this football math game, I had to solve decimals place value problems. For each correct answer, I would earn seven points, but if I get the incorrect answer, I lose three points. This was hard for me because I got a lot of questions incorrect and I only got 3 correct. My score is 14 but I really wanted to get at least over 20. I would like to practise more decimal place value.
