Fair Chocolate

Fair Chocolate

WALT: understand/learn the level of writing at L4

This story is about a man named Ewan Cameron who works for a fair-trade company. His responsibility is setting up the company’s new chocolate factory and managing its budget. The chocolate is created from a fruit tree called Theobroma cacao. This plant is native to Central and South America but 70% is mostly found in Africa, Ghana. The cacao tree is a pod that is shaped like a rugby ball. Inside the pod, there’d be about thirty to forty cacao beans and then they’d dry it in the sun. It is later shipped to a factory and mixed with other ingredients. Theobroma means food of the gods in  Greek.

Maraea and Tino Kahurangi

Maraea and Tino Kahurangi
WALT: create a Maori myth. (narrative)
write an impactful introduction to our Maori Myths.

"KNOCK  KNOCK, KNOCK!" as Maraea banged her fist on the chiefs door. Marea is the daughter of the chief. She’d ask for all sorts of ideas but Tino (Chief) Kahurangi would always refuse. “This is your fifth visit today....WHAT DO YOU WANT!” barked the chief in annoyance. The Kainga (Village) was so peaceful that all they heard was the wind and the birds singing. “Well....I come back with another whakaaro (idea).” “Since there’s barely any people in our kainga, I thought  it’d be dazzling if we bring some outsiders in to fill the area.” Maraea continued.

Huge stomps were heard from his front exit. Tino Kahurangi viciously swung open his gold-silver door and out squawked a whooping voice. “What kind of ridiculous idea is that Marea? As the tamahine (daughter) of the chief, you should know that we are not allowed to bring outsiders into our kainga. It’s too dangerous.”

This made Maraea extremely e pouri ana (sorrowful). So sad that she decided to abandon her village and scamper away. She then lost her footing on the ground and paheke (slipped) in a pile of brown, slimy paru (mud). As the slimy goo spread over her tanned body, she began to sob. The paru rubbed on her eyes.
Tino Kahurangi was so harsh to Maraea that he felt the need to give an whakapāha (apology) to her. Thinking she was still outside his door, he said, “ I’m sorry Marea.......” but in the middle of opening his rich-looking door, Maraea was long gone. It was dark. The sky was covered in a black blanket.
Tino Kahurangi began to worry. He sent out troops on a quest to look for his tamahine. Hours later, they found Marea laying by the edge of Mataura River all covered in mud and grass. Looking almost camouflaged. They picked her up and carried her back to their homeland.

Knowing that Maraea was safe and sound, was all that really mattered to him. When Maraea awoke, there was a note next to her that said:
I’m sorry for being so harsh on you earlier today. I really had a thought about your idea and I was actually okay with it. Just please don’t run away like that. This made Maraea upbeat as tears of joy dripped from her clear blue eyes. So from this day forward, Chief Kahurangi had always agreed with Maraea’s ideas.

Adding and Subtracting Fractions

This game is called Speedway. I had to add and subtract fractions but the answer was sometimes given in its simplest form. This game was kind of a brain puzzle because I got confused at some stage. I enjoyed playing this game. I came second on this game and didn't get any incorrect answers.

The Pythons Dinner

WALT: work with two others to write a narrative.

One hot afternoon, an African Rock Python felt very hungry. He needed to eat. He decided to seek out his prey. The python thought that maybe most of his prey might be near a water source so he thought he had to find a lake as clear as a crystal. “Hssss,” the python was desperate for food as he slithered through the dirt. The pythons process was slow.....but steady. He finally reaches a water source. A lake in the middle of nowhere. He could hold his breath for 15 minutes then.......

The python said “ I’m ready to eat those stinky springboks”. The python waited till dawn for a springbok to arrive. The python waited and waited for the stupid springbok to arrive, but it never came. It was getting darker and the python was still waiting. “Grrrrrr”. The python's stomach was growling. Poor python was waiting too long for those springbok to arrive. He was feeling tired and almost decided to give up.

Then the next day, a huge herd of springbok rushed down to the lake like fast cheetahs. “MMMM YUMMY YUMMY, HERE THEY COME,” the python said happily. The stupid springbok stood on the edges and they drank the water for a long time. The python jumped up with its mouth open wide and swallowed the springbok. “Dinner was YUMMY”

The python was lucky enough that the springbok was big which meant that the python didn’t need to eat for another whole year.

REFLECTION: I thought that working with two other students was a great idea. It wasn't hard to work with others. It was easy and the story was finished really quickly. In my opinion, I would like to keep writing with two others.

Ratio Blaster

Screenshot 2015-07-02 at 10.11.41 AM.png

In this game, I had to choose the ratio that was equal to the one on the bottom. I think I needed to know my fractions for this game because sometimes I had to find the fraction that equals to half. I found this hard in the beginning but when I started to play a few more levels, it was gradually getting easier. I think I still need to play this game a couple of times because I got some of them wrong.

If you want to take the challenge, here’s a link.
