WALT: create a garden with a pool using square units.

I had plenty of fun during this activity. We learned the concept of area. I thought this was extremely interesting because we used the prices of real objects. I found how expensive pools are to build. I think this would be most described as easy for me because as a class, we worked out how much our pools costed. We also used a calculator to help with the multiplication.

ANZAC Ceremony

WALT: commemorate ANZAC Day

On Thursday 23rd April 2015, students from Room 11 planted white crosses in the front of the school sign. I was away on this day so I didn't get the chance to plant a cross. They planted these crosses in remembrance of the soldiers who died in the war.

Write a Letter

WALT: write a letter to your parents, telling them about your life.

Peak Camp, Gallipoli
April 1916

Dear Mum and Dad

Hey! It’s been a long time since I've written to you. It has been really busy at the camp so I can barely find time to write. I would really like to know what you have been doing over these past months.

To start off with, it’s been really nice here. I've made new friends with the other soldiers. They seem to be really nice to me and we have heaps of fun. We play card games, have a laugh and we look after each other.

We get provided food from the nurses like bread, biscuits and other yummy treats. It’s not enough to fill me up but at least it keeps me going through the day. Heck, even the rats get their treats, they've been chewing through clothes, haversacks and our blankets.

The weather here was extremely bad yesterday. With no tent or any possible shelter, a great big thunderstorm hit us. Many injured but the nurses are doing their best to do their job.

Hopefully this war ends really soon so I can get back home and see you again.

Please reply back.

Your loving daughter,
Andrea

Problem Solving with Mrs. Bina

FullSizeRender.jpg
Today, a woman named Mrs. Bina came to our class to help us learn more in maths because she is a maths facilitator. We first started conversating about respect and teamwork.
Then we were given a word problem. We discussed it with the students and then we were separated into groups of three.

Then we chatted in a group. In my group were Tane and Alyssa. We were learning more in fractions.
I learned what half of 1/3 is and I learned what 2/3 of a half is. We shared strategies with each other and we were doing our best to be co-operative.

I had fun learning with Mrs. Bina.

It was difficult when the problem was  first given to me but then it got easier and easier when more of the fractions we were given to us. I would want to learn more with Mrs. Bina.

Trenches

webcam-toy-photo3.jpg

This is a model of a trench my group made because we’re studying World War 1. Trenches are places where soldiers lived.

In my group were Camille and Ketura.
At first, we had to do some research about what goes in a trench.
Then soon afterwards, we had to plan our trench inside our book. The one that we liked best, was the one we were going to make.
The play dough was handed to us and we began making our model.
In this trench, there are sandbags, a rat and a gun. I didn’t contribute to any of this work because I had to finish off my mosaic art. We couldn’t paint it because we didn’t finish on time.
