What you do before swimming

WALT: Explain what you do before swimming

Swimming is very important for pupils at Glen Innes School and every  student must know how to swim a whole length without stopping. That is about 25m. Here is what G.I. School does before they get into the pool.

The first thing that students do at G.I.S is to get changed into their swimming gear. Can you guess why they get changed into their swimming gears? It’s because if their clothes are cotton, the colour of their cotton clothing will spread through the chlorine and then the whole pool will turn into the same colour as their clothing. That is why it is safer for children to wear their swimming gear or something that is waterproof.

Next, all the pupils need to go for a shower so that the chlorine does not get all over their body. Chlorine is a chemical that you don’t want to get on your skin.

Finally, the students have to go inside the pool. But how do they get inside the pool? Well, they use a ladder. They use the ladder so they can get in the pool safely. But why can’t they jump in the pool? Its because they might get hurt and it will cause a big problem.

Did you know Glen Innes School is the only place in the East Tamaki area that has a pool? All the other schools have to borrow a swimming pool. They also have swimming when they go to sports camp. Glen Innes School also swims with other schools as well.

Hi Andrea,
Your Post about What to do before swimming is astonishing. There are lots of things that i didn't know before I read your post. Now that I have read your post, I now know what to do before swimming. What made you want to write about this?

Hi Sajiha
I wrote about this because Mrs. Ramkolowan told us to write about what we do before swimming.
